Parenting Today: Understanding the Challenges Families Face Today

Parenting is a Rollercoaster

It is full of highs, lows, joy, and challenges. As mothers and professionals supporting families, we know this both personally and through the stories of the families we work with. What we see time and time again is that every family’s experience is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all formula, no magic solution, and no perfect way to do parenting.

So often, social media portrays parenting as a series of perfect routines, milestones, or hacks. It can make parents feel like they’re falling short or that everyone else has it “figured out.” We are realists and know first hand that life is way messier than that!

As a company and as people who care, we are always striving to meet actual and current needs, we want to support parents in ways that are practical, meaningful, and grounded in real life.

This October, as we pause and listen to parents in our community, in an effort to truly understand, we’ve also been doing lots of thinking and talking, online research and standing back and observing discussions in social media and whats app groups. This whole process seems to highlight certain challenges as coming up again and again, possibly reflecting the common struggles many families face. We are curious to know if you see your challenges in this list or if you are facing different things.

  • Sleep struggles and routines: Getting little ones to sleep, stay asleep, or adjust to new schedules can leave parents exhausted. We are wondering: Are there patterns in your child’s sleep that leave you drained? How do you cope on tough nights? Do you feel like this impacts on your wellbeing?

  • Feeding and nutrition worries: Picky eating, introducing new foods, and balancing nutrition can feel like a constant challenge. We are wondering: Do mealtimes feel like a battle or a joy? What would make them easier?

Managing behaviour and big emotions: Tantrums, sibling rivalry, and big emotions are exhausting, and learning to respond with patience can feel like the hardest thing. We are wondering: How do you navigate behaviour and big emotions in your home? Is this a source of difficulty for you?

Balancing work and family life, and finding time for self-care: Finding time for yourself while juggling work and family demands is a constant juggle. We are wondering:  When did you last have a moment just for you? What would help you carve out more time?

We also see that here, in and around Geneva, many families are navigating additional layers: Being an expat or international parent, living far from extended family, raising children in a multilingual environment, and adjusting to new cultures and systems. These unique factors can bring their own challenges - and opportunities.

To help us on our mission of understanding your needs better, we’ve created a short, anonymous survey to gather your feedback, but we also love hearing directly from you.

So we would love for you to share your experiences openly and honestly in whatever way you feel most comfortable. Your input will help us shape the support, resources, and community we build moving forward, grounding everything we do in true, messy, lived reality.

Our hope is simple: that together, we can create a clearer picture of what families truly need, so we can continue supporting you in meaningful, practical, and caring ways throughout your parenting journey.

Thank you for partnering with us to help us grow stronger as a community!
